Class transfers are the key milestones of a character: they are where you unlock new skills and access to strong gear. Interlude has three, at levels 20, 40 and 76. Let us cover what each one needs and why private servers often make this simpler than retail.
The three class transfers
| Profession | Level | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | 20 | A small fee or a short quest at your class master |
| 2nd | 40 | A class quest (Trial) or a purchase with items |
| 3rd | 76 | A quest with rare items (Book of Giants and more) |
1st profession (level 20)
The simplest step. At your race's Grand Master you pick your first specialization for a token fee or after a short quest. Until then you are an unspecialized Fighter or Mystic, so do not linger: the 1st profession immediately opens combat skills. How to reach 20 and 40 fast is in the 1-40 leveling guide.
2nd profession (level 40)
This is where your character becomes a familiar class, for example a Rogue becomes a dagger and a Cleric becomes a Bishop. On retail you complete a class quest (Trial) and earn special Mark items, or buy the transfer with them. It is the pivotal milestone: real class play starts at the 2nd profession.
3rd profession (level 76)
The final specialization unlocks a class's strongest skills. The quest demands rare items (such as the Book of Giants) and real effort. By now you are in the endgame and most likely in a clan (see the clan guide).
Many private servers simplify class transfers: they make them free, instant, or adena-based, with no long quests. Check this in the server rules, along with the rates, when picking a project (see how to choose a server).
Do not confuse a class transfer with a subclass or Noblesse. A subclass is an extra class on one character (see the subclass guide), while Noblesse is a separate status for the Olympiad (see the Noblesse guide).
Which class to pick
Your profession defines your whole playstyle, so choose deliberately. Beginners should read best beginner class, and there are role guides for the details: daggers, archers, mages, tanks, healers.
